Summer Fun

It is hard to believe the summer is almost over.  We love the summer! The summer is one of the best times of the year!  We have had some fun memories.  Clarissa is the highlight of our lives. Here are some of the highlights of the summer:

David and Clarissa enjoying Willard Bay.  It was the first time Clarissa has been to the lake.  It was so fun to see her in the water!

I believe Clarissa is going to be a redhead like me.  What do you think?

We went to Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake.  There were some really neat birds.  Clarissa seems to really like the ducks.  In fact, she has a book about ducks and it has become one of her favorites.  She knows how to say "duck"  and "quack".

One of the unfortunate events of the summer was that our Toyota 4Runner died.  We were on vacation with David's family and it gave up the ghost...ahhh!  It served us well but it would have cost more to fix it than it was worth.  So we had to say good-bye.
Now the debate/discussion goes on....minivan or SUV?  Any suggestions, input??

Clarissa shares a birthday with her cousin Brockton.  They are both getting so big and very good looking!
David's parents were called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Las Vegas, Nevada.  They left in July and went into the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah for two weeks.  We were able to go down to Provo and see them before they left for Las Vegas.  It was so good to see them.  They will be incredible missionaries.  We are going to miss them. We are so proud of them for wanting to serve the Lord.

Clarissa loves to watch me run her bath water every night before bed.  She gets so excited to see the water.
Clarissa has become a "Daddy's Girl" in every sense of the word.  She has him wrapped around his little finger a million times!

We took a family vacation to Bryce Canyon.  It was so much fun.  It is a very beautiful place.  The sights are breath taking.

  2. Go for the Sienna! With the Dodge, you must consider the true cost of ownership: cheaper initial start up cost, more in repairs, much lower resale value. We average 19.6 mpg in the Sienna and can get 25 mpg at 80mph on the freeway. With the Kia, they have good warranties, but my mechanic friends say that when the warranty is over that they are no longer worth keeping. In fact, they have to be junked because they have fallen apart too severely.

But not everyone has the same maintenance priorities as I do. I feel like if you can own a car for less than $1000/yr, you are getting a good deal. So a lease for 300/mo is, in my mind, money wasted. Say you buy a used Sienna for 10k, use it for five years, and sell it for 7k, that is realistic and savvy.

Also, to me, a newer, high mileage car is a better deal than an older, lower mileage car. Case in point: The VFR. Case #2: The 2008 Sienna with 108,000 miles. With time, the rubber gaskets and components break down, even more so when the car sits idle because they're not being lubricated. Mileage doesn't wear out cars, time and UV do. Look at taxi-cabs--they put over 300k on some of those before they need serious work.

But not everyone agrees with me on that, either, and that's fine. Good luck with the search. Nice pics.
